For dermatology practices

Patients pick their dermatologist — and their injector — on Google.

Skin checks, Botox, lasers — each one starts with a search, and the medspa down the block shows up in the same results. We scored 237 dermatology practices in New York to see who patients find. Free, takes 60 seconds.

The data · New York

237 dermatology practices, as patients see them.

We started where we’re based and searched the way patients do. The median practice has 71 reviews at 4.6 stars — and half of them share the map with a medspa.

  • 62% don’t appear in the Google Map Pack for any of their core searches 142 of 229 practices
  • 63% of practices with new reviews hadn’t replied to any of them yet 73 of 115 practices with reviews in the last 10 days
  • 52% share the Map Pack with a medspa or aesthetics business 120 of 229 practices
  • 2.8× more likely to appear in the Map Pack with 100+ reviews 60% of practices with 100+ reviews vs. 22% below 100

Our audits of 237 New York–area dermatology practices, September 2026; Map Pack figures cover the 229 with at least three searches measured.

By treatment

Four service lines. Four ways patients search.

A Mohs referral and a Botox regular look for you in completely different ways. We track each one separately.

A dermatologist marking injection points on a woman’s forehead before a neurotoxin treatment
Injectables: marking injection points before a Botox treatment.
Botox & fillers

Searched next to every medspa.

Medspas share the results page with you on almost every injectables search. Patients compare before-and-after photos and read reviews for the injector’s name.

Lasers & devices

Searched by treatment, not by device.

Patients search for the result they want — hair removal, resurfacing — not the machine that does it. Demand for each moves with the seasons.

Skin cancer & Mohs

A referral, checked before the call.

Mohs patients usually arrive with a biopsy result and a surgeon’s name. They still search that name — reviews, credentials, how soon they can be seen — before they call.

Medical dermatology

The biggest search in dermatology.

For medical visits, patients mostly choose on the map: how close you are, what your reviews say, and whether you take their plan.

How patients search

Cosmetic patients search the treatment.

For medical visits, patients look for a dermatologist. For cosmetic ones they type the treatment — “botox” alone is searched about 25 times as often as “cosmetic dermatologist”, and that’s the search the medspas bid on.

Local searches a month
  • laser hair removal 212,770
  • botox 177,040
  • microneedling 86,950
  • dermal fillers 72,580
  • cosmetic dermatologist 7,220

FAQ

Questions dermatology practices ask us.

How did you score 237 dermatology practices?

Our audit pulled public signals for each practice: Google Map Pack and organic positions for up to five searches built around the practice’s neighborhood and treatments, review counts, ratings and owner replies, website structure, and directory listings on Google, Yelp and WebMD. One location per practice, New York metro, audited September 2026.

Do medspas show up in the same searches as us?

Often. A medspa or aesthetics business took a Map Pack slot next to 120 of the 229 practices we could measure — mostly on cosmetic searches. The appeario Audit shows which medspas and practices appear next to you, search by search.

We already have a lot of reviews. Why aren’t we in the Map Pack?

Reviews help — practices with 100+ reviews made the Map Pack 60% of the time, against 22% below 100 — but 38 of 96 still missed it. Categories, profiles, treatment pages and review replies all play a part. The appeario Audit shows which one it is for you.

How do you handle review replies and HIPAA?

Every reply follows a protocol you approve up front: it never confirms that the reviewer is a patient or mentions their care, and it moves specifics offline. Replies go out within 24 hours; anything under 3 stars or sensitive goes to you first.

What does it cost?

The appeario Audit is free. Paid Search + Reviews starts at $890/month with no minimum term. Visibility Projects — treatment pages, doctor profiles, schema — start at $1,490 one-time.
