For orthopedic practices

Patients research their surgeon for months. Are you who they find?

Knees, hips, shoulders, spines — the search starts with “orthopedist near me”, and the Map Pack often puts you next to the hospital systems. We scored 181 orthopedic practices in New York to see who patients find. Free, takes 60 seconds.

The data · New York

181 orthopedic practices, as patients see them.

We started where we’re based and searched the way patients do. Almost half share the map with a hospital system, usually through its surgeons’ own Google profiles.

  • 51% don’t appear in the Google Map Pack for any of their core searches 85 of 167 practices
  • 78% of practices with new reviews hadn’t replied to any of them yet 52 of 67 practices with reviews in the last 10 days
  • 45% share the Map Pack with a hospital system 75 of 167 practices — NYU Langone, HSS, Mount Sinai, NewYork-Presbyterian, Northwell
  • 2.1× more likely to appear in the Map Pack with 100+ reviews 75% of practices with 100+ reviews vs. 36% below 100

Our audits of 181 New York–area orthopedic practices, September 2026; Map Pack figures cover the 167 with at least three searches measured.

By treatment

Four service lines. Four ways patients search.

A hip replacement and a sprained ankle reach you through completely different searches. We track each one separately.

Hip & knee replacement

Researched for months, often with family.

Joint-replacement patients search long before they book — surgeons by name, reviews, recovery questions — often with a spouse or an adult child reading along.

Sports medicine

Searched today, booked this week.

After an injury, patients search for whoever can see them soon. Distance, reviews and an open slot decide — and in Manhattan it’s one of the most expensive clicks in orthopedics.

Spine

Searched condition by condition.

Back and neck patients often search after PT, injections or a second opinion, and they look up their specific condition and options. The hospital systems hold the broad searches; the specific ones are far more open.

Walk-in & urgent ortho

Searched as “urgent care”, not “orthopedist”.

With a sprain or a suspected fracture, patients search “urgent care near me”. We check whether your walk-in clinic shows up on that search, with your hours.

18
of 181 practices we scored mention walk-in or urgent orthopedic care

How patients search

Patients search the pain, not the procedure.

Before anyone mentions surgery, patients type what hurts. And when it hurts today, they look for somewhere that takes walk‑ins.

FAQ

Questions orthopedic practices ask us.

How did you score 181 orthopedic practices?

Our audit pulled public signals for each practice: Google Map Pack and organic positions for up to five searches built around the practice’s neighborhood and treatments, review counts, ratings and owner replies, website structure, and directory listings on Google, Yelp and WebMD. One location per practice, New York metro, audited September 2026.

Can we show up next to the hospital systems?

Yes. Hospital-system surgeons took a Map Pack slot next to 75 of the 167 practices we could measure, usually through their own doctor profiles — and 82 of those 167 practices still made the Map Pack for at least one core search. Around your offices, on your surgeons’ names and on specific procedures, the results are far more open. The appeario Audit shows where you stand on each.

Can each surgeon have their own Google profile?

Yes. Patients search for surgeons by name. We set up each profile so it links to the practice instead of competing with it.

Most of our patients are referred. Is this for us?

Referred patients still search your name before they call. We track those searches alongside the rest.

How do you handle review replies and HIPAA?

Every reply follows a protocol you approve up front: it never confirms that the reviewer is a patient or mentions their care, and it moves specifics offline. Replies go out within 24 hours; anything under 3 stars or sensitive goes to you first.

What does it cost?

The appeario Audit is free. Paid Search + Reviews starts at $890/month with no minimum term. Visibility Projects — treatment pages, doctor profiles, schema — start at $1,490 one-time.
